For many women with PCOS, the first gains come from a few consistent habits — before adding another prescription.
Start with what you can measure
Cycle length, weight trend, sleep hours and fasting sugar or insulin markers give a clearer picture than symptoms alone. Your consultant uses these to decide whether lifestyle change, medicines or both are needed now.
Weight, insulin and sleep
Even a modest, steady weight change can restore ovulation for some women. Improving sleep and reducing late-night eating often helps insulin sensitivity as much as a new tablet.
When medicines help
Metformin, cycle-regulating hormones or ovulation induction may be appropriate after evaluation. The sequence matters: treat the foundation first, then layer medication when it will actually work.
Fertility and PCOS
Irregular cycles do not mean pregnancy is impossible. Many women conceive with timed ovulation support; others need IUI or IVF. The right step depends on age, partner factors and how long you have been trying.
