What an IVF cycle actually looks like, week by week

An IVF cycle is a planned sequence of clinic visits and decisions — not a single procedure. Here is how a typical cycle unfolds at Vedaya.

Before the cycle starts

Your consultant reviews blood work, ultrasound findings and any prior treatment notes. Medicines, monitoring days and the approximate retrieval window are written down so both partners know what the next four weeks look like.

Ovarian stimulation

Daily injections encourage several follicles to grow. You visit for scans and hormone checks so the dose can be adjusted. Most people continue work during this phase; visits are short and scheduled around your day.

Egg retrieval

When follicles are ready, eggs are collected under light sedation. The same day, sperm is prepared in the lab. You go home the same afternoon with clear after-care instructions.

Fertilisation and embryo culture

Eggs and sperm are combined by IVF or ICSI. Embryologists follow development over the next few days and update you on how many embryos are progressing.

Transfer and the two-week wait

A selected embryo is placed in the uterus in a brief outpatient procedure. You continue prescribed support medicines and take a pregnancy test on the date your doctor sets — not earlier.

When to speak with us

If you are planning IVF in Kukatpally, book a fertility consultation. We will map whether a cycle is appropriate now, and what preparation is needed first.

When to see a fertility specialist

Waiting too long is common. These timelines help you decide when a specialist visit is the next useful step.

Simple timelines

Under 35: seek help after 12 months of regular, unprotected intercourse. 35 and above: after 6 months. Seek earlier if cycles are irregular, periods are very painful, or there is a known male or female factor.

What the first visit covers

History for both partners, prior reports, a plan for basic tests and a written next step — not a hard sell for IVF on day one.
